New Hampshire Legislature Will Get Another Chance to Ban Conversion Therapy

We need your help! The New Hampshire House will reconsider HB-587, to ban conversion therapy in our state.

Conversion therapy is practices or treatments that seek to change an individual’s sexual orientation or gender identity, including efforts to change behaviors or gender expressions or to eliminate or reduce sexual or romantic attractions or feelings toward individuals of the same gender.

Conversion therapy does not include counseling that provides assistance to a person undergoing gender transition, or counseling that provides acceptance, support, and understanding of a person or facilitates a person’s coping, social support, and identity exploration and development, including sexual-orientation-neutral interventions to prevent or address unlawful conduct or unsafe sexual practices, as long as such counseling does not seek to change an individual’s sexual orientation or gender identity.

The American Psychological Association says that conversion therapy attempts to correct something that is not wrong with an individual and calls it damaging and possibly a contributing factor in suicide.  Suicide is the second leading cause of death in 10 to 34-year- old New Hampshire citizens.

We will have another shot at this vote but we need all supporters in their seats for the vote tentatively on February 7. Here's more discussion on the bill.

We need everyone to call/email their legislators Democrats and Republicans alike to make sure they vote in favor of reconsidering this vote and overturning the committee decision of ITL! We have to protect our LGBT youth!! Please call and email your representatives.
